Yeah it’s somewhere in the New Testament

How often do you find yourself saying this just after super para-phrasing a verse with no reference? Or you spend 10 mins looking in your word index for a verse and you can never find your one! Well your not alone, most of us suffer this common aliment and we always wonder how does the Pastor always remember where the verse are?

They say the key to learning is repetition. John Macarthur shared recently on GTY radio the process he went through to get a hold of remembering the New Testamant. For 30 days or 1 month he would only read 1 book of the new testament over and over for that month or he would read 7 chapters over and over for that month. E.g First John is 5 chapters so you would read that through every day for a month or if you were reading Acts which is 28 chapters long you would read 7 chapters per month every day for 4 months. You would also incorporate writing summaries of chapters along the way.

If you follow this pattern it will take you about 2.5 years to read the NT. Now it doesn’t mean you don’t read anything else but your going to be reading the bible for the next 2.5 years anyway if you live that long, so why not take up the challenge to do it in a way that you will remember it!

I’m giving it a go, I’m going to read 1 John every day this month.

  1. Good thoughts…I’m on my first journey through the Bible and will probably complete the New Testament this week. This pattern would definitely help in ingraining Scripture in us. Thanks for sharing it.
