Sorry about that God.

Was thinking on my drive home tonight while listening to some of the latest Christian music..ok it was a few years old. I was thinking there seems to be alot of Christians and Christian musicians who are either ashamed of the name of Jesus or they sincerely believe they can be a better Christian witness and reach the world by omitting Jesus name from their music. So it begs to question. Well what does God think about it.
Unless its blasphemous, i don’t think i can picture God being upset at someone for proclaiming Jesus name too much in their music. I can’t imagine him saying “Well ‘insert name’, you know if you had just been a little more cryptic in your song writing instead of all the Jesus glorifing lyrics, some people might of been more open to the Gospel”
2 passages come to mind for some meditation.
Romans 1:16
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ,[a] for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes…
Luke 9:26
For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, of him the Son of Man will be ashamed when He comes in His own glory, and in His Father’s, and of the holy angels.

That’s a really good point. This isn’t totally related, but sort of. I heard in an interview with Andrew Beaujon, author of Body Piercing Saved My Life: Inside the Phenomenon of Christian Rock, that in general the Christian bands who are most successful in the secular market have been those who are up-front and honest about their Christianity. He talked about some bands who purposely muddy their lyrics so that Christians take it one way and non-Christians another. They do this by saying “He” instead of “Jesus” or “God.” They probably think this will get them more attention in the secular world, but it does the opposite actually.
I don’t expect every Christian song to be loaded with the name of Jesus (even the book of Esther never mentions God) but like you said, I’m sure God wouldn’t mind.
P.S. Great quote by Spurgeon in the top right corner of your blog, by the way!
Thnx for your comment. I agree, there are definatley some bands out there that have made it pretty big without compromise. But at the same time, at least here in Australia, your not going to find any music in the top 40 that mentions the name of Christ.
